Breaking down the WLA Playoffs
This series has an incredible story line even before the ball drops as they start beating the crap out of each other. Remember that block buster deal that shocked the WLA at the trade deadline? Just imagine the thoughts and feelings going through the minds of the players on both teams that were flopped at the deadline. While the Thunder are stacked top to bottom full of NLL and WLA heavyweights, the Adanacs have absolutely zero pressure on them and can just go out and play their game against the two time defending champs.
Over all this series may be a forgone conclusion in many people's eyes but don't turn your back on the A's. This series will go five at least six games and the longer it goes, the better the chances the Adanacs have of pulling off the upset.
Series: 2 1 Burnaby. 14 8 (Vic), 12 11 (BBY) 10 8 (BBY)
The Adanacs won five in a row to end the season and while they're easily the underdogs in this series, they have everything to prove, especially to the guys who left for a shot at a Mann with the Thunder. Coquitlam went to the WLA finals last year and this year they are completely different team, even more so after the deadline. But one thing that hasn't changed is their incredible work ethic and hard nosed play. No doubt about it, they'll be in tough against the Thunder but one Nike Vapormax Red White thing is for sure the Adanacs will not roll over.
will), this series will be an all out track meet. With two of the fastest teams out of their own back end, the transition game could very well decide this series. Burnaby is the young up and comers while Victoria is the old guard that is trying to regain past glories and return to Nike Vapormax Flyknit On Foot
It's long been talked about that the Western Lacrosse Association is in quite the slump when it comes to the Mann Cup. To be clear, the west hasn't won a national championships since the 2005 Victoria Nike Vapormax Zero
Victoria Shamrocks vs. Burnaby Lakers
Every year more specifically, every odd year when the Mann Cup is out west people begin the talk that this will be the year that the slump ends. Well, the four teams remaining to kick off the WLA post season all have high hopes of lifting the 112 year old trophy come mid September. For one of Langley, Victoria, Burnaby and Coquitlam it's going to take twelve wins to secure a Mann Cup ironically not one of those teams won twelve games this year.
Victoria may be in a make or break year with all the talent they've brought in and if it's Mann Cup or bust they might want to make sure they bring their A game. Nobody is saying the Rocks are above the hype but for all the names they brought in this year, many people expected more from them. Much like the Thunder, the Rocks had many big name players coming in and out of the lineup all year so chemistry was often an issue. So when they hit the floor tonight they'll need to make sure that everyone is on the same page. In a best of seven series, you can't afford to take a couple games to hit your stride. Victoria has a ton of talent and will be a threat for the WLA title but it's one game at a time and it begins tonight.
The Lakers should not be taken lightly and you can guarantee that the Shamrocks definitely are not taking them as such. Burnaby took two of three from the Rocks and in those two wins they seemed to have Victoria figured out. If the other series is going to be a slobberknocker (anytime I can throw good ol' JR into a post, I Nike Vapormax Plus Colorways
Langley should have their full roster come Thursday night and it will be interesting to see who is left off the game day roster because their depth is incredible. There aren't too many weaknesses in their game, which could very well be the chink in their armour. The Thunder didn't exactly end the season on a high note, losing their last two games to New West and Burnaby, but one could look at them coasting to the end of the season resting and making sure they're healthy for the Mann run.
Shamrocks defeated the Peterborough Lakers in six games. Since then, the Major Series Lacrosse loop has gone on a tear, winning seven straight Manns.
The playoffs get going tonight on the Island as Victoria welcomes Burnaby to Bear Mountain and then Thursday the Thunder and Adanacs square off in the two best of seven series for the chance to play for the west crown. Let the fun begin as we're just over a month away from the start of the Mann Cup. So sit back and enjoy some incredible lacrosse.
Back and forth this series will go and up and down the players will run. Those who are lucky enough to watch this series might feel as if they're watching a tennis match. Sure, winning the season series is a bit of a confidence boost for the Lakers but it also could very well be the driving factor the Shamrocks need. If this series doesn't go seven games, the fans will be robbed.
It all gets going tonight in Victoria as we begin the process of cutting four to two and then two to one for the kings of western Canada and the right to host the 2013 Mann Cup. Follow all the action right here on IL Indoor and if you can't make it to the one of the games in person, the WLA games are all viewable on line via PPV (yes it's PPV) webcast over on the league's website.
Burnaby should be hosting game one of this series; and they probably thought they were going to. That's the only way to explain their second period Saturday night where they went in up 7 2 and came out trailing 12 9. Any stretch of play like that against the Shamrocks will surely see them on the losing end but all year this team has impressed with their consistent play and incredible work ethic. Young, fast and hungry, the Lakers won't let you take a shift off (unless it's a 2nd period against Coquitlam) and will be in your face all game long. They aren't a dirty team but they are a team that pushes the tempo and tries to keep their opponents on their back foot. With only a few players having tangible big game experience, that could very well could be their downfall against the Rocks.
